Anthony T. Kapinas, 91, of Plains Township, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, August 16th, 2024. Born on September 6th, 1932, he was the beloved son of the late Anthony and Caroline Kapinas of Wilkes-Barre Township.
A proud graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School, Anthony soon answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served honorably during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, Anthony embarked on a new chapter in life, securing employment with Foster Wheeler Energy in Mountaintop, PA, where he worked diligently as an inspector of products designed for land and sea. After the plant's closure, Anthony continued his career at General Dynamics' Nuclear Submarine Division in Groton, Connecticut, where he served as a critical parts inspector until his retirement.
Anthony was an avid sports enthusiast, passionately cheering for the New York Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers. A devoted father and grandfather, his greatest joy came from his family, who will deeply miss his love and presence.
Anthony was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Susan Barancho, son-in-law, Lance, his sister, Joan, and her husband, Charles. He is survived by his brother, Tom, and his sisters, Irene, Jean, and Judy, along with their spouses. He is also survived by his children: son, Anthony, and his wife, Jane, of Bethlehem; daughter, Karen Phares, of Huntsville, Alabama; and his cherished grandchildren: Tony Jr. (Jess), Kristie, Emily, and Hanna (Chase). Great-grandchilden, Anthony and Kalli. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held from Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S Main St., Plains, PA 18705, on Friday, August 23rd at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Rd., Plains, at 10:00 AM Friday morning. Friends and family are invited to a viewing service on Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow with Naval Military Honors at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Chapel and subsequently, the Mausoleum, where Anthony will be laid to rest alongside his loving wife, Susan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saints Peter and Paul Church Building Fund.
