It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bernadine “Bernie” Sabol, 82, who left us on Sunday July 26, 2026. Bernadine, affectionately known by all family and friends as “Bernie”, was born on February 18, 1944 to John M. and Elizabeth Baller Sabol. Bernie attended Sacred Heart Slovak School of Wilkes-Barre for 8 years, graduating from Plains High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many.Bernie was a devout woman of the Catholic faith, a parishioner of Sacred Heart Slovak Church until its merger with St. Andre Bessette Church and later St. Peter and Paul Church and Corpus Christi Parish.

Bernie was employed by Catholic Social Services for 49 years. One of her many roles included supervising the Christmas Food and Toy Program, ensuring that every family in need had holiday meals and gifts from Santa. Bernie was also involved in the extremely rewarding work of placing infant children in adoptive, loving homes. Bernie was one of the first volunteers of the Big Brother/Big Sister Program in Wilkes-Barre for 8 dedicated years, having made a significant impact on several young girls. She was a lifetime member of the FCSLA and the Slovak Heritage Society.

Bernie was famous for her brownies and banana breads, always providing for family functions, work-related gatherings, and any special occasion.

Although Bernie never had children of her own, she loved each of her nieces and nephews as though they were her own. She was always there for birthdays, graduations, weddings, sporting events, and life’s milestones, cheering them on with pride and unconditional love.

Bernie was preceded in death by her parents John and Elizabeth Sabol; her brother John Sabol, her sisters, Monica Novak, Joan Donnelly, and Mary Beth Scott; brothers-in-law; her forever best friend Jeanne Gallagher; paternal and maternal grandparents and numerous family members.

Bernie is survived by her loving sister Ann Lisowski, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Bernie treasured the time she spent with her family and friends. She especially loved being an aunt and took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of her nieces and nephews. She was always there with love, encouragement, and support, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Bernie enjoyed traveling, shopping, taking care of her nieces and nephews, and looked forward to every evening watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, her two favorite TV programs.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Bernie’s life with family Thursday, July 30, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S Main St, Plains 18705.

A final visitation will be held Friday, July 31 from 9:00 to 9:30 am at Yeosock Funeral Home, followed by a procession to St. Anthony Parish, 28 Memorial Street, Exeter 18643, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am by Msgr. John Sempa. Interment with Rite for Committal will follow in Sacred Heart Slovak Cemetery, Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul’s Soup Kitchen, 39 East Jackson St. Wilkes- Barre Pa 18701, or the Social Concerns Committee at Corpus Christi Parish, 65 Luzerne Ave West Pittston PA 18643, to help serve others as Bernie had served throughout her life.
