Obituary

Charles James Shannon, aged 91, of Pittston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center. Born to the late Charles and Ethel Shannon, he was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.

Charles is survived by his children, Carol, Charles, Patrick, Michelle, and Lisa. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark. He also leaves behind his siblings, Amos, David, and Ethel Mae, while his brothers Frank, Richard, and Robert predeceased him.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Charles served as a Corporal with Company E of the 26th Infantry Division during the Korean War. Following his military service, he built a career at the Pittston Lumber Co. and was a dedicated member of the Teamsters. Charles was also actively involved with the VFW and the American Legion, contributing to his community and fellow veterans.

He leaves a legacy of 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Veterans Hospital Hospice Unit for their exceptional care and compassion during Charles's final days.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a service to honor Charles's life on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 11 AM at Chapel Lawn Chapel in Dallas. Inurnment will follow. Charles's memory will be cherished by all who knew him, as a testament to a life well-lived and a duty faithfully fulfilled.
