Obituary

Eleanor Barrows, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Hospice of The Sacred Heart, Dunmore surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 30, 1931, Eleanor was the eldest daughter of the late Andrew and Helen Sakolick Shampack. She graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1949. A dedicated member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre, Eleanor served her community and family with unwavering devotion. Before retiring, she worked as a purchasing agent at Royer Foundry.

Eleanor's commitment to her church and family was unmatched. Known for her organizational skills and meticulous planning, she ensured every event she orchestrated was a success. Her greatest joy came from her family, raising her daughters with unconditional love and being a doting grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Alex M. Barrows, and her sister, Elizabeth "Tiny" Reymann.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Ellen (Mark) Chesterfield of Mason, Ohio, and Andrea (Mark) Van Tuyle of Forty Fort; her cherished grandchildren, Matthew (Amy) Chesterfield, Sara (Kent) Worley, Mark (Brittany) Van Tuyle Jr., and Kristin (Jonathan) Sepela; her adored great-grandchildren, Ella, Alex, Claire, Ava, Jack, Elliott, and Everett; and her sister, Arlene Karalunas of Pringle.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of The Sacred Heart for their compassionate care, which allowed Eleanor to remain at home for as long as possible.

A Funeral Service in Eleanor's honor will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 10 am at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, located at 58 Seneca St, Wilkes-Barre Township, 18702. Friends and family are invited to a viewing service at the Church from 9 am until the time of service. All services conducted will be held in the Church on Thursday morning. Eleanor will be interred at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Cemetery, Pringle. Arrangements by the Yeosock Funeral Home, located at 40 S Main St, Plains. Memorial contributions in Eleanor's name may be made to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 58 Seneca Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
