Obituary

Elizabeth Petorak, beloved matriarch, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born on April 10, 1934, Elizabeth dedicated her life to her family, and her love was truly immeasurable. She was the cornerstone of her family—a guiding light who created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and an abundance of love.

Her faith was a central part of her life, and "Matushka" Elizabeth served lovingly alongside her husband at Holy Trinity Church in Niagara Falls and Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Wilkes-Barre. She also shared her beautiful voice in their church choirs.

She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, the Very Reverend Vladimir.

Elizabeth's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her four children: Paula (Victor), Greg (Gail), MaryEllen (Bob), and Vlad (Maria). She is also survived by her nine cherished grandchildren: Jessica (Kyle), Nicole (John), Chris (Andreea), Cristina, Nicholas (Becca), Lara (Johnny), Greg (Brittany), Rebecca (Ryan), and David (Kim), as well as fifteen great-grandchildren. Each of them will forever carry her love and lessons in their hearts.

Beyond her role as a loving mother and grandmother, Elizabeth was a woman of many talents and passions. She possessed a true gift for baking, and her kitchen was a magical place filled with delightful aromas—especially during the holidays. She made sure to always bake enough of her delicious treats, from Christmas cookies and pumpkin pies to nut and poppyseed rolls and fresh loaves of bread, so that every family member could take home a piece of her love.

She also had a distinguished career as a registered nurse, graduating at the top of her nursing school class while raising her four young children. She touched countless lives with her compassionate care. Elizabeth had a smile that could light up any room and a spirit of generosity that knew no bounds. She would do anything for anyone in need. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering love will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy will live on through the countless hearts she touched.

Her family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of the Sacred Heart and the exceptional staff at Star Hill for their outstanding care.
