Fred Charles Gardner, 90, of Dallas, passed away peacefully at his home on July 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia Gardner; his sons, Bradley and Todd Gardner; and his daughter, Kathy Gardner Davis.

Fred is survived by his children: Vicki Gardner-Marcikonis (widowed),
Brian Gardner and his wife Dawna, Sheryl Gardner, Debbie Konnick (widowed), and
Randolph Gardner.

He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and several great-grandchildren who brought him great joy in his later years.

Born in Westfield, Pennsylvania, Fred was the son of the late Charles and Edith Gardner. From a young age, he worked on the family's dairy farm, instilling in him a strong work ethic that shaped his life.

He later served his country honorably in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the post–World War II era.

After returning home, Fred began a long and dedicated career as an operating engineer with Local Union 542, a role he proudly held for many years.

Following his retirement at the age of 55, Fred didn't slow down. He bought a backhoe and spent the next chapter of his life helping neighbors, friends, and anyone in need—always ready to lend a hand (or a machine) for whatever task needed doing.

Fred had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed weekend camping trips in search of leeks. He could often be found relaxing on his front porch swing or in the garage, happily tinkering with a new project or enjoying a cold Miller High Life from his well-stocked fridge.

He was the kind of man who never shied away from a challenge, a tough conversation, or the chance to share a moment over a cold beer. Whether you were a lifelong friend or a stranger passing through, he always had a drink ready for you and time to talk about life.

His presence was steady, his words honest, and his company unforgettable. Fred will be truly missed by many.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their care and compassion during Fred's final days.
