John Kucirka, 84, of Larksville, PA, passed away, surrounded by his family, at Allied Hospice on Friday, February 3, 2023. John was born in the Brookside neighborhood of Wilkes-Barre, PA, on December 1st, 1938, to Zeneda and Michael Kucirka. After graduating from Coughlin High School, he served in the US Army from 1960-1963, and then spent most of his career, until retirement, as a dedicated employee of Proctor & Gamble. He lived an active and inquisitive life, and had several topics about which he was passionate: military history, genealogy, and current affairs. He enjoyed researching his Lemko ancestry, and served as a Trustee on the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society. He made several trips to his family's ancestral homelands in Eastern Europe, and was a participating member of several Russian Orthodox Churches in Luzerne County.John was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Lois, for 54 years of marriage and companionship, before her passing in 2022. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jean, and brother, Jerome. Known to his family simply as "Pa," he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his children: daughter Beth Long of Pittston, PA; son Rick Marcy of Montrose; grandchildren: Robert Talarico and family in Boston, MA: granddaughter Andrea Talarico of Brooklyn, NY; grandsons Jesse Long and Ricky Long, Pittston, PA; grandson Klay Marcy and family of Nicholson, PA, and granddaughter Kyla Marcy and family of Friendsville, PA; cousin Carol, and niece Donna.  A Funeral Panahida Service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, February 7th, celebrated by the Rev Michael Evans at Yeosock's Funeral home in Plains, 18705.  Friends and relatives are invited for a viewing service from 10 until the the time of service at the Funeral Home. Interment immediately following in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Twp. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Allied Hospice and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, for their compassionate care during our family's time with them.
