Obituary

Joseph R. Bizub, 94, of Port Blanchard, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Wesley Village, Pittston. He was born in Port Blanchard, where he lived his entire life. He was the son of the late Andro and Veronica (Gavron) Bizub.

Joseph honorably served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in Germany and Alaska during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post 0938 for 73 years. After his military service, he pursued a career in upholstery, where he excelled in his trade. Following his retirement from Plainwell Tissue, he was later employed by L&D Millwork.

He was passionate about gardening, a skill he learned from a very young age, and he took great pride in his work. His extensive knowledge and stories of local history were highly regarded, and he was sought out by the historical society for his insights.

Joseph and his beloved wife, Josephine (Pirillo) Bizub, were married for 64 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert; brothers, John and Andrew; and sisters, Julia, Sophie, and Mary.

He is survived by his children: Joseph, of Plains; Brenda Stchur and her husband Nick, of Hudson; and Karen, of Rahway, NJ. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dylan, Nicholas, and Shelby; great-grandson, Jude; and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 15, at 8:30 AM from Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains, followed by a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, with full Army Military Honors.

Friends and relatives may call for a visitation on Friday, March 14, from 5 to 7 PM at Yeosock Funeral Home.
