Joseph C
Smith
d. Aug 2, 2023
Joseph C. Smith, 68, of Exeter, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 2, 2023, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Joe was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania on July 29, 1955, to the late James W. Smith and Julia Bagonyi Smith. He attended Wyoming Area High School and further honed his skills at Westside Tech. A talented mechanic and auto body worker, Joe had a knack for making things run smoothly and fixing what seemed unfixable. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like camping, and cherished the lifelong camaraderie with his friend Jimmy Herron.
He was a dedicated community member and had a long history of service as a past member of the Wyoming Hose House Number Two in Exeter, the VFW Post 6518 Wyoming Monument War Vet Alliance, and the Exeter Lithuanian Club. Joe's unwavering dedication and commitment will be deeply remembered by those organizations.
Joe is survived by the love of his life, his wife Suzanne Thiel Smith, and their sons Charles, Robert, and Joseph. His legacy continues in his twelve grandchildren who will forever remember their loving grandfather.
He is also survived by his sister Anne Marie Shaver and her husband Robert, his brother James W. Smith and wife Jacqueline, of Pittston, along with several nieces and nephews who will miss his vibrant spirit and kind soul.
A viewing and visitation service will be held at the Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S Main St, Plains, PA 18705, on Sunday, August 6th, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
Joe was the type of person who left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His loss leaves a void that will never be filled, but his memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. "Fly high, Joe, we love you," is the sentiment echoing from all who had the pleasure of knowing this wonderful man.
