Josephine Goldowski Steransky passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on October 17, 2025, at the age of 93, after a lengthy illness. In the days before her passing, she was lovingly visited and called by many members of her family, who came to spend time with her and express their love. Following the death of her husband of 69 years, Andrew Steransky, Josephine was cared for by her daughters with whom she resided, JoAnn Protheroe and her primary caretaker, Christine Steransky.

Born in Plains, PA, on April 10, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Goldowski. She attended St. Peter and Paul School and worked as a seamstress in multiple sewing factories throughout the Wyoming Valley. She was a proud member of the International Ladies' Garment Union. After retiring from the factories, she continued to work self-employed as a nanny, caring for many children until she fully retired.

Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Steransky; her son, Joseph; brothers Frank, Joseph, Theodore, Ed, John, and Henry; and sisters Phyllis, Elizabeth, and Helen.

She is survived by her son, Andrew (Mary Jean) of Centermoreland; daughter JoAnn (Kurt) Protheroe of Kulpmont; and twin daughters Dawn (Anthony) Chimel of Fort Myers, and Christine Steransky of Kulpmont; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday from Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Township, 18705, with interment to follow at 11 a.m. in Marsh Cemetery, SR 2005, Centermoreland, 18657. Viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Township, 18705.

Josephine showed remarkable strength throughout her illness. A woman of deep faith, she had been a longtime member of Sacred Heart in Plains and was recently baptized at Bethany Bible Fellowship Church in Mount Carmel. She took great pride in caring for her home, and deeply enjoyed gardening, needlework, cooking, and baking. Above all, she found her greatest joy in caring for her family and especially loved spending time with young children and babies.
