Leon Weiss

Leon Weiss Jr. of Dallas, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, surrounded by his family and his loving wife of 61 years, Georgia Lee Youells Weiss.

Leon spent most of his life in the Back Mountain. He attended Westmoreland School and later served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a mason for most of his life — a lost art, but one he took great pride in.

He loved the outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing, trapping, or simply enjoying a quiet walk.

In addition to his wife Georgia Lee, Leon is survived by his sister, Louise Weiss Roberts of Montrose, PA, and by his daughters and their spouses: Polly and Carl Whispell of Harveys Lake; Louise and Brian Haughwout of Trucksville; Edith and William Rought Jr. of Falls; and Elizabeth Weiss of Dallas.

Leon was blessed with many grandchildren who loved talking to “Pop” about everything, as he was a wealth of information on many subjects, including honey bees and fruit trees. His grandchildren include Tara, Brian Jr., Steven, Amanda, Carl Jr., Ashley, Emily, William, and Isabel.

Most recently, he was able to meet his great-grandchildren: Leona, Anthony, Austin, Braxton, Andy, Emma, and Corina. They may be too young to understand, but great-grandpa loved them all.

He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Edith Major Weiss, as well as his son-in-law, Clyde A. Crispell Jr.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Home Bound and Allied Services Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Leon throughout his illness.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been made with the help of Yeosock Funeral Home in Plains, PA.
