Margaret "Peggy" Joan (Phillips) Lewis, born on May 18, 1941, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, to Eleanor Bowen Phillips and John Phillips, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday, September 15, 2024 in Peoria, AZ.  A devoted wife, mother, nurse, and spirited fan of life's joys, Peggy leaves behind a legacy of warmth, care, and shared memories.

She married Ronald Albert Lewis, with whom she had two children, Megan and Timothy. Together, they built their lives in Saylorsburg, White Haven, and Weatherly, in the heart of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Peggy graduated from Kingston High School and went on to attend Wyoming Valley Nursing School, where she earned her Registered Nurse degree. Throughout her career, Peggy brought her compassionate care to nursing positions in Plainfield, NJ; New York City; Wilkes-Barre; and East Stroudsburg, PA.

Her most notable career chapter was at Weatherwood Carbon County Home for the Aged, where she dedicated 17 years in various roles, rising from RN to Acting Administrator. Peggy's pursuit of excellence didn't stop there—she earned credentials in Skilled Nursing and Sub-Acute Care, and achieved a professional administrator's license. She also worked as the Nursing Home Administrator at Coaldale State Hospital before its closure and served as Director of Nursing at Hampton House in Hanover, PA, before retiring. Her efforts toward completing a BSN through Wilkes University were cut short by just two courses.

Peggy and Ron called Woodhaven near White Haven their home for over 30 years. The house, nestled by a serene lake, became a gathering spot for family celebrations and holiday traditions. Their shared love for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies defined many Sundays and game days, with Peggy joining in to cheer on her teams with passion and enthusiasm.

Beyond sports, Peggy had an adventurous spirit that took her across the United States and beyond. Whether visiting relatives or exploring new destinations, she traveled throughout the Northeast and ventured west to Nevada, California, and Arizona. One of her cherished memories was witnessing the 1969 moon landing on television while in Switzerland. Of all the places she visited, Ocean City, New Jersey, held a special place in her heart. Summers spent on the shore, toes in the sand, and indulging in boardwalk treats like Johnson's Caramel Corn and Fralinger's homemade fudge are treasured family memories.

Peggy also had a deep appreciation for the arts in all its forms. An avid reader, she was a fan of authors like Danielle Steel and Beverly Lewis, and her love of literature extended to the screen, with Murder, She Wrote among her favorites. Living within reach of New York City and Philadelphia, she embraced opportunities to attend musicals, plays, and concerts, enjoying performances by the likes of Paul Simon, Barbra Streisand, and Neil Diamond. Peggy was a passionate cinephile with an impressive knowledge of classic films. She delighted in sharing trivia about actors like Paul Newman and Shirley Temple, and her love for films like Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, and Ben Hur was well-known to her family.

As we say goodbye, we remember Peggy's zest for life, her love of family, and her remarkable legacy of caregiving. Her spirit lives on through the laughter, stories, and memories she left us. May she rest in peace, joining the stars she so often admired on the silver screen.

A service to celebrate Peggy's life will be held on Wednesday, September  25, 2024, at the Bear Creek Messiah P. M. Church, 110 Pittston Blvd, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702. The funeral service will commence at 12pm, and friends and family are  welcome to pay their respects during a viewing at beginning at 10 am until the time of services. The Yeosock Funeral Home at 40S Main St, Plains, is overseeing the arrangements.
