Obituary

Mary Beth "Betsy" Scott, 73, of Plains, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Highland Manor in Exeter, surrounded by love and care.

Betsy was born on June 24, 1951, to the late John M. and Elizabeth Baller Sabol in Plains. A proud graduate of Plains Memorial High School, she dedicated over 25 years of her life to Boscov's in Wilkes-Barre, where her warmth and skill in customer service were well-known. Betsy was especially cherished for her time in the candy department, where her fudge became a local legend. Her love of baking extended beyond work, as she delighted family and friends each holiday season with her lovingly prepared cookies and treats—a true testament to her generous and caring nature.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald; infant daughter, Kimberly Ann; and her sisters, Joan Donnelly and Monica Novak.

Betsy is survived by her loving daughters, Jennifer Scott and Kristi Emanuel; her cherished son-in-law, Michael; and her adored granddaughter, Sophia, all of Plains. She is also survived by her brother, John Sabol; sisters, Bernadine Sabol and Ann Lisowski; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the exceptional nurses and staff at Highland Manor and Traditional Hospice for the compassionate care Betsy received.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Corpus Christi Parish, Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dallas. Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Betsy's memory to the SPCA of Luzerne County, honoring her enduring love for animals and her cherished dogs, Coco and Pearl.

Betsy's kindness, sweet spirit, and enduring love for her family and community will be remembered always
