Obituary

Peter Souchick, 95, formerly of Edwardsville, passed away Wednesday March 23, 2023 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born at home in Edwardsville, Pa, he was the son of Metro and Helen (Hazilla) Souchick. Peter graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1947. He enlisted in the US Navy on March 9,1945 and was assigned  to the destroyer USS Spangenberg as a Seaman 2C during World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, he began working for Kraft and then worked 34 years as a shipping clerk for Planters Peanuts, retiring in 1989. Peter was a member of St John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church in Edwardsville where he met and married his wife Marie (Delinsky). They were married for 56 years and had 4 children, Ann Marie, a pathologist in Corpus Christi Texas, Paul, deceased, Michael, an electrical engineer and wife Masako (Toda) in Fort Worth, Texas and John, a medical technologist in Larksville. Peter enjoyed his hobbies including gardening, collecting coins and watching his business news. He also was a big fan of Duke basketball and Penn State football. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling with his wife visiting family. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie in 2015, and by his brothers Michael and Joseph Souchick, sisters Helen Kwochka and Anna Souchick, and son Paul Souchick. He is survived by his sisters Betty Waite in California and Eva Souchick in Edwardsville. Peter was also blessed to have 2 grandchildren Richard and Rachel in Fort Worth, Texas who gave him great joy, and many nieces and nephews.  The last 2 years of his life he was a resident of Mercy Center in Dallas and the Meadows Skilled Nursing Facility. Peter's family would like to thank the Mercy Center and Meadows staff for all their help and compassionate care. We would also like to thank the staff of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and Hospice Care during his time there. A Requiem Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, March 28th, at St John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 93 Zerby Ave, Edwardsville, 18704. Friends and relatives may call for a Viewing Service in the Church from 10 am until time of service on Tuesday Morning. Arrangements by Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S Main St, Plains.
