Ronald "Ron" Eugene Smallcomb passed away after a short illness on December 16, 2023 in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He was 77 years old. An entrepreneur and musician, he was also a beloved husband, father, and Pop-Pop.

Born to Wade and Antoinette Smallcomb in Hanover Township on June 1, 1946, he fell in love with rock-n-roll music early in life and learned to play guitar. As a teenager in the early 1960s, he played with local bands before he was old enough to drive, finagling rides to gigs with older relatives. He joined "The Tones" in 1961 and played local hotspots like the Wilkes-Barre CYC, Hanson's Amusement Park at Harveys Lake, and the San Souci Ballroom. After graduating from Hanover High School in 1964, he took a job with Coca-Cola as a driver and then a supervisor, but continued to work as a musician. At one of his gigs, he met and fell in love with Bernardine Omashel of Wilkes-Barre. They married in 1970 and moved to Mountain Top. They had three children: Danielle Smallcomb, Nicole Poulin, and Ryan Smallcomb. Around the time the Tones disbanded, Ron joined a touring band, "The Ohio Express," known for hits such as "Yummy, Yummy" and "Beg, Borrow, and Steal." Missing his family, Ron decided to temporarily hang up his guitar and feed another passion of his: automobiles. He took a job with Ertley Dealerships, rising from a car salesperson to vice president & general manager over 14 years. Ron left Ertley in 1991 to start his own company, Ron Smallcomb Associates, which offered consulting services to the auto industry. In 1999, he founded and became president of America's Choice Cars and Credit, partnering with Gary DeBise. They eventually spun off additional, related businesses: America's Finance, America's Holding, and America's Warranty. He found great satisfaction in work and never retired.

Later in life, he returned to playing live music. He re-formed the Tones in 1999, with former member Ron Stefanko and local musician Vince Saracino. They had a devoted following of fans who enjoyed the music they played from the '50s, '60s, and '70s, especially their three-part, doo-wop style harmonies. After the passing of Stefanko, Vince Saracino Jr. joined the band and they played regularly until 2020. Most recently, Ron ventured out as a solo act.

He bursted with pride over the accomplishments of his three children. Although they all resided outside of Northeastern PA, visits back and forth made time together more cherished. He enjoyed his time with their spouses and partners as well, forming close bonds with Jerome Bjelopera (Danielle), Jamie Smallcomb (Ryan), and Mike Gordon (Nicole). He took particular delight in being a Pop-Pop to Stella, Violet, and Jackson, doling out bonuses for good grades, playing Monopoly, and hosting jam sessions (his musical genes skipped a generation). He enjoyed swimming and sunbathing and spent over 25 years "cruising" the Caribbean regularly with his wife, her sister, and brother-in-law Dorothy and Vince Magarosky. He loved gathering his family around the pool in the summer - cajoling, heckling, and daring people to take a dip when the weather even approached temperate. He had a "need for speed" and owned a succession of Chevrolet Corvettes. You could find him on the ski slopes well into his 70s - but only on the black diamonds.

Ron is survived by his wife, children, and their families, who already feel the void left by such a generous and adventurous spirit.

A  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 in St. Jude Church,420 S Mountain Blvd, Mountain Top 18707. Inurnment immediately following in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dallas, PA. Family and friends may call Tuesday morning at the Church from 9 am until the time of Mass. Arrangements by Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S Main St, Plains 18705. Ron was a firm believer in the "patron saint of hopeless causes," so in lieu of flowers, remembrances in his name can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
