Vera "Pasch" McAdam, a devoted and skilled Registered Nurse, aged 97, departed this life serenely at her residence on February 2, 2024. By her side was her cherished partner of 37 years, Jim, offering unwavering support until her final moments. Born to Anna Pasch and John Ratcoff, Vera was a proud alumna of Plains High School and the General Hospital School of Nursing. Her academic journey didn't end there; she furthered her education at Penn State University, earning a degree in home health administration. Vera's skills extended beyond nursing: she was a proficient sign language interpreter and would employ that skill over seveal venues. Vera worked at several medical facilities includng Heritage House and concluded her professional career as the activities director at Valley Crest Nursing Home.
Vera's commitment to her faith and community was evident through her active involvement in numerous churches. She was a beacon of generosity and service within these communities. In Jim, affectionately known as Jimmy Joe, she found not just a partner, but a soulmate who provided her with unparalleled care and love.
Her legacy is one of unwavering love, immense compassion, and formidable strength, leaving an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to cross her path. Vera's love knew no bounds, particularly for her family and friends. She shared a special bond with her great-nephew Connor in Delaware, cherishing him as if he were her own grandchild.
Vera's memory will be cherished by her stepdaughter, Tia DeFlania, and a host of nieces and nephews. She joins in eternal rest her siblings Helen and Mary Ratcoff, Maria Katsock, LaVerne Tokarski, and her brothers Basil, Harry Ratcoff, and Nicholas Walters.
In honoring Vera's compassionate spirit, contributions in her memory may be made to the SPCA, Plains Township, or to the Italian Christian Church at 40 E Oak St., Pittston, PA 18640.
A service to celebrate Vera's life will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Italian Christian Church at the address above. The service, led by Reverend Peter Sellani, will commence at 11 am, preceded by a viewing at 10 am. Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects. The Yeosock Funeral Home at 40S Main St, Plains, is overseeing the arrangements.
