Obituary

Walter J. Tyszka Jr., a lifelong resident of New York City, passed away on June 28, 2024, at Birchwood Nursing Home at the age of 87. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on April 8, 1937, to Mildred Tyszka and Walter J. Tyszka Sr. Walter was predeceased by his mother, Mildred, in 1955, his father, Walter Sr., in 1979, and his sister, Joanne Sieja, in 1979.

Walter was known for his deep love of New York City, where he spent 85 years of his life. He dedicated himself to education as a school teacher within the Archdiocese of New York City, leaving a lasting impact on his students and colleagues.

Outside of his profession, Walter had a passion for travel, hiking, and biking. He adored the theater and enjoyed writing, which he embraced throughout his life. His nieces, Lorraine DeGraff (Fred) of Ash, NC, and Loretta Presto (Clyde Moyer) of Nanticoke, PA, along with his great niece and nephew in Dallas, PA, held a special place in his heart. Walter was a devoted uncle who enriched their lives with outings to parks, museums, and landmarks like the Statue of Liberty during their childhood.

Throughout his life, Walter remained a source of guidance and support for his family, offering wise counsel and sharing his joy of travel through postcards filled with his infectious happiness.

Walter J. Tyszka Jr. will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A memorial service to celebrate Walter's life will be held privately. Arrangements by Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S Main St, Plains.
